Who we are

Samcot Digital is a web design and development business based in Lancashire, UK. We build custom websites for local service-based businesses. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Samcot Digital.

What data we collect

We only collect data you provide directly to us or that is gathered automatically through standard analytics tools.

Contact form submissions

When you fill in our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), business name (optional), your message, and how you found us. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry.

Analytics data

With your consent, we collect anonymised data about how visitors use our website -pages visited, time on site, device type, and approximate location (country/region). This is collected via Google Analytics 4 and is used to improve the site. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics.

Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:

Legitimate interests -processing enquiry form submissions to respond to potential clients.
Consent -analytics cookies, which are only set after you explicitly accept via our cookie banner.
Contract -processing data necessary to deliver services to clients who engage us.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use two categories:

Essential cookies

Required for the website to function. These cannot be disabled.

cookie_consent -stores your cookie preference. Expires after 1 year.

Analytics cookies (consent required)

Set only if you accept cookies. Used to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

_ga, _ga_* -Google Analytics 4. Used to distinguish users and sessions. Expires after 2 years.
_gtm_* -Google Tag Manager. Used to manage and deploy analytics tags. Session duration.

How long we keep your data

We retain data only as long as necessary:

Enquiry form submissions are kept for up to 2 years or until the enquiry is resolved, whichever is sooner.
Client project data is retained for up to 6 years for legal and accounting purposes.
Analytics data is retained for 14 months within Google Analytics, as configured in our account settings.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify any inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erase your data (the "right to be forgotten"), where applicable.
Restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Withdraw consent at any time for any processing based on consent (e.g. analytics cookies).
Portability -receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

How to complain
